My First Outdoor Run

For some crazy reason, I had a fear of outdoor running. I'd only recently started running on the treadmill and a friend invited me to run with her running club. In the past, I'd turned her and other friends in running clubs down because "I didn't run"; after my couple of weeks on the treadmill I was feeling ambitious so I figured...what the heck? For full transparency, I was told it was only a mile and a half and there would be free food and drinks after. :)

I was nervous before we got started but it ended up being a blast! Shoutout to NYC Bridgerunners and Nike+ Running Tribeca Store.

Quick Snapshot before we started. I don't actually know this girl, but when Erin pulled out her phone to snap a "candid" we just posed. Anyone who knows me knows that posing for a pic is a reflex for me. Oh, did I mention we got those sweet Nike Dri-fit shirts for free?! I love free swag. :)

Here's the back of the sweet shirt. #GameOnWorld

So, the Bridgerunners are pretty cool. So cool that Nike likes to take their photo and make videos of them. There was a van that followed us the entire run with a camera and mic.

The tricky thing about having a camera follow you is they get caught at lights in the NY streets. So, when there's a break....pull-ups!! haha Shoutout to the lone girl who also did this.

After the run, Nike had Jamba Juice, soda, water and wait for it....burgers and fries for us!!! Yes, burgers and fries. I guess since most of these people are running bridges several times a week, a burger doesn't really matter. For context, I overheard a girl talking about her 100 mile race the weekend before. 100 miles! That's 99 more than I was nervous about running that day.

Despite my face of disapproval here, I I ate that burger. And those fries. And they were good.

Then, we danced it out with DJ Mode in the front of the store. If outdoor running ends like this every time, I'm all about it!!

In the end, I ditched my walk/run training since it was obvious I could run longer than a few minutes. I'm now doing 1.2 miles and plan to get to 1.5 by the end of the week!!

Small steps, man. Small steps.

'til next time.
